Man gets 10-year prison sentence for promoting prostitution

Deante Nelson-Williams pleaded guilty Tuesday to promoting prostitution in the second degree and agreed to a 10-year prison sentence.

Circuit Judge Collette Y. Garibaldi will sentence Nelson-Williams on October 7.

Nelson-Williams is one of 22 defendants in 19 promoting prostitution cases that have been brought by Prosecuting Attorney Keith Kaneshiro’s office since 2011.

Kaneshiro said prosecutors are stepping up efforts against operators of “relaxation salons” that are fronts for prostitution and are considering a number of legal options to shut them down, including regulatory, labor, money laundering and racketeering statutes.
