Tuesday’s Need to Know

Tropical storm Guillermo strengthened slightly overnight with a forecast track further north of the islands. A tropical storm watch remains in effect Tuesday and the storm will affect the coastal waters Wednesday through Thursday.

Hawaii officials take precautions as Guillermo moves closer to our state. At 5 p.m. Tuesday night, the back country areas of Hawaii Volcanoes and Haleakala National Parks will be closed.

The new homeless task force identified two sites for an emergency shelter. One of them is the Liliha Civic Center, although there is no final decision yet.

The Honolulu Fire Department continues to monitor the brush fire in Wahiawa on Tuesday morning. Fifty firefighters from four different agencies are battling the blaze. Officials tells us the fire department will conduct an aerial assessment on Tuesday. We’ll alert you to any changes.

Two of HFD’s helicopters are down again for servicing and repair. Just last month, both helicopters underwent major upgrades after being grounded for three months. For now, the fire department is using HPD’s chopper.

There’s a public hearing Tuesday night on a proposal for overnight construction along Kalanianaole Highway in the Waimanalo area. Voice your opinion at Waimanalo School and Library starting at 6 p.m.

The search continues for missing OCCC inmate Rene Adriatico. He failed to return from work furlough over the weekend. If you see him, call police.
