Volcanic ash delays Hokulea’s voyage

Hokulea’s worldwide voyage is delayed for now because of an active volcano in Indonesia.

Persistent eruptions from the volcano have canceled flights in and out of Bali.

That’s preventing current crewmembers from switching out with a new crew that’s supposed to fly in from Sydney.

Despite the temporary delay Hokulea’s crewmembers are enjoying their stay in Bali where they are learning traditional farming and land management practices.

“Nainoa even though he’s back home he wanted to remind the crew that this is a voyage. Nature is our guide. We always wait for the right winds and weather to do anything,” said Hokulea apprentice navigator Jenna Ishii.
