There’s a major prep football shakeup on the Big Island.
Two-time defending Big Island Interscholastic Federaton Division I champion Hilo has placed Head Coach David Baldwin on an indefinite leave from the program.
Athletics Director Kurt Kawachi would not go into specific details, but did acknowledge that an investigation is ongoing into complaints against Baldwin.
“As of Wednesday the 5th, Dave Baldwin is on leave from our football program. I cannot comment on any specifics at this time, but we’re in the process of reorganizing our football program and we will make an announcement about an interim head coach shortly,” Kawachi told KHON2.
The Vikings, who have gone 20-3 in the last two seasons, will open their season on Saturday on Oahu against the four-time reigning ILH champions of Punahou at 2 p.m. at Alexander Field.
