Presidential arts program launches in three Oahu schools

Some Kalihi Elementary School students got a special visit by several celebrities on Wednesday.

Musicians Jack Johnson and Jake Shimabukuro and actress Alfre Woodard helped launch the

Turnaround Arts Schools program at Kalihi Kai Elementary which is one of three schools selected for the presidential program.

The program uses arts education as a tool to help turn around America’s struggling schools.

“The president and the first lady are so committed to you getting a great school year full of dance, full of music, full of art and all those things. They are committed to you having the best education available in our country,” said actress and PCAH member Alfre Woodard.

The other schools selected for the program are Kamaile Academy and Waianae Elementary School.
