University of Hawaii midfielder Storm Kenui was named to the Big West Preseason All-Conference Women’s Soccer Team on Wednesday, as voted by the nine league coaches. The ‘Bows were also picked to finish tied for sixth with UC Santa Barbara.
Kenui’s honor comes as no surprise. The junior playmaker exceled for the Rainbow Wahine last season. She led the team with six goals en route to earning league honors and an NSCAA all-region selection. During the season she was voted to the Outrigger Resorts Shootout and OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka ‘Oi All-Tournament Teams and named Big West Defensive Player of the Week.
With 17 players returning and Tiana Fujimoto returning to the fold after a one-year injury hiatus, the ‘Bows will have something to prove after being tabbed tied for sixth in the preseason poll.
Kenui and Fujimoto, along with 2014 all-conference performers Lidia Battaglia, Kama Pascua, and Sonest Furtado will spearhead the Rainbow Wahine effort as they gear up for the season opener on Aug. 21 against Stanford at the Outrigger Resorts Soccer Classic.
