Life in prison with the possibility of parole is the sentence for a Molokai man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend.
Marlin Lavoie shot 24-year-old Malia Kahalewai in front of their children and friends in March of 2013.
According to court documents, the two had broken up just four days earlier.
Police say Lavoie found Kahalewai at a friend’s house.
That’s when he grabbed a rifle and shot her in the chest.
