It’s not a glamorous job but it’s a stable one with good wages and benefits.
We’re talking about the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry.
If you’re looking for a new career, the plumbers union offers an apprenticeship program. We have more info on that in today’s “In the Biz.”
The Plumbers and Fitters Local 675 Union was founded in 1919 with just 50 members. Its core purpose is to initiate members of the plumbing trade, perpetuate efficient performance of the respective skills and provide qualified people trained to meet the challenges with advancement in technology. The membership is skilled in Plumbing, pipefitting, refrigeration, air conditioning, fire sprinkler systems, & welding.
The Plumbers union apprentice program is a 5 year program comprised of classroom work, hands on training and 10,000 hours of on-the-job training. Its an investment in the individual and a commitment to perpetuate the plumbing trade in the future.
There is no financial cost. The union pays for the training. The cost is the commitment in hours and dedication to the work ethic necessary to be successful in the plumbing trade.
Neighbor island candidates are welcome. With technology, the training program is enhanced with video distance learning beneficial for instructors and apprentices. This allows the apprentice to continue training reducing some of the travel to Oahu.
