Visitor dies while on Maui snorkeling tour

The Maui Police Dept. reports that a visitor died Friday morning while on a snorkeling tour.

At about 11:08 a.m., police met with paramedics and the Coast Guard for an unresponsive adult female at Maalaea Harbor.

The Odyssey had taken the victim and other tour group members to an area called “Turtle Town” for a day of snorkeling.

The victim was found face down in the water and was taken back on board. A bystander began CPR as the vessel traveled to Maalaea Harbor to meet with paramedics and the Coast Guard.

Once in the harbor, despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as Jung Aee Kim, 73, from Grand Prairie, Texas.

The cause of death has not been determined pending autopsy results.
