Hawaii Island police have initiated a murder investigation in connection with the discovery of a woman’s body on her Puna property.
On the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 25, Puna district officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Kapoho Kai Drive. An investigation led to the discovery of a woman’s body outside her home with suspicious injuries.
The victim has been identified as Nadean Rutledge, 63, of Pahoa.
A witness and Hawaii visitor, Suzanna Jamison, said that “about 5:30ish, I heard someone screaming and yelling, like they were fighting, and someone saying ‘help,’ and then it stopped. … I could see, when they were driving away, a tall, white man with blood on his leg.”
Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are actively investigating the case. They have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
