Rainbow Wahine Soccer to face Wyoming, Denver For Outrigger Resorts No Ka ‘Oi

Rainbow Wahine Head Coach Michele Nagamine

After two tough loses to Top 20 opponents, the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine soccer team will look to rebound this week, hosting Wyoming and Denver in the Outrigger Resorts No Ka ‘Oi at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. UH will face Wyoming on Thursday, Aug. 27 and Denver on Monday, Aug. 31 with Wyoming and Denver squaring off on Saturday.

Despite a gritty performance against No. 3 Stanford in Friday’s season opener, the ‘Bows (0-2) went winless in their two matches at the Outrigger Resorts Soccer Classic. Forward Sonest Furtado capitalized on a Stanford miscue in the back to put Hawai’i up just 31 seconds into the game, the fourth fastest goal in UH history. The lead stood until the 73rd minute before the Cardinal put in two goals and sealed the 2-1 win.

Lauren Takai netted UH’s lone goal against No. 18 Cal two nights later, coming late in the match which the ‘Bows fell 5-1.

Denver (0-2) comes in also with two losses to start the season, and Wyoming (0-0-1) played Montana to a double overtime scoreless draw in its opener. Denver was shutout over the weekend, falling 2-0 to Colorado State and 1-0 to Air Force.

Kickoff for all three matches is set for 7:00 p.m.
