The Kauai Police Department is encouraging interested individuals to apply to become a police services officer. Applications are due by noon on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
A KPD police services officer performs a variety of law enforcement, crime prevention, investigative or other specialized duties. Those selected to be a part of a recruit class will participate in an intense training period which is designed to teach each recruit the techniques and procedures of police work.
Candidates for employment must be at least 20 years of age at the time of filing the application, and at least 21 at the time of appointment.
All applicants will be required to pass a written and physical exam. Those who successfully complete both exams must then submit a personal history packet and will undergo a pre-employment psychological assessment. A background investigation, polygraph test, interview and other testing will be conducted to determine suitability for employment.
The position requires officers to work irregular hours, including shift and weekend work, and includes exposure to hazardous conditions.
