A two-alarm building fire erupted inside the Judd Building in downtown Honolulu.
The structure is located at 851 Fort Street Mall near Merchant Street.
The fire was reported by security personnel from outside of the structure at 8:51 p.m.
Firefighter responded with with nine fire companies staffed with 35 personnel.
The first HFD unit arrived at 8:55 p.m. to find a five story office building with moderate smoke emanating from the ground floor lobby.
Firefighters confirmed that no one was in the building and located the fire in the basement.
The fire was under control at 9:27 p.m. and extinguished at 9:42 p.m.
Fire personnel conducted ventilation operations to clear the smoke from the building.
No injuries were reported.
HFD Fire Investigators determined the damage to the structure at $20,000 and $1,000 to its contents. The cause was classified as accidental due to electrical arcing. Flooded conditions due to heavy rains may have been a contributing factor.
