Kapolei Lofts celebrated the completion of its first building, and some of its tenants got to move in Thursday.
The development, located on the corner of Kapolei Parkway and Wakea Street, will have nearly 500 rental units on a 17-acre lot when it’s completely done.
“I’ve asked for our city to please not just stop here, but step up and look for other places where they can do a project just like this, either out here in Kapolei or in town,” said Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell.
There are 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units available. Affordable rental units range from about $1,200-$1,400 per month, and market rate units run between $2,300-$3,500 per month.
Amenities include a swimming pool, BBQ area and fitness center.
For those who want to qualify within for a restricted unit and make 140 percent Area Median Income, they can get market rents, but Kapolei Lofts is offering a one-month free rent.
