Power Polls: Week 2

For the first time this season, there’s a new team at the top of the Division I Cover2 & Geico Power Poll.

After the defending Division I state champion Mililani Trojans (3-1) were handed a 76-53 drubbing defeat courtesy of Nevada’s Liberty Patriots, the Saint Louis Crusaders (2-0) marched ahead and right up to the No. 1 spot in the latest poll.

The Crusaders beat Liberty 43-16 last week at Aloha Stadium and received 15 of the 20 first place votes despite having the week off.

Also moving up in this week’s Power Poll was Punahou (3-0), capturing the No. 2 spot, and Kahuku (4-0), who is now tied at the No. 3 spot with Mililani. Each of those teams earned first-place votes.

In this segment, Rich Miano looks into what happened to Mililani with their drop to third in the poll.

Spots No. 5–9 in the Division I poll remained the same with Kapolei (3-2) earning the No. 10 ranking after beating the previous No. 10 ranked team Moanalua (2-3). The Hurricanes defeated the Na Menehune 33-21.

The Division II Power Poll saw no change in rankings this week with Kapaa (3-0) still holding on to the top spot while not playing a game this week.

Radford (4-0) made their case for the top team in the state with a 48-0 shutout victory against Kaimuki, earning them nine first-place votes.

The Cover2 Power Poll is voted by 19 media members representing Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. The 20th ballot is the total of online viewer votes at KHON2.com. Ballots are available to be voted on every Friday night from 9 p.m. to Monday at 7 p.m.
