September is Hunger Action Month™, when Feeding America and member food banks like Hawaii Food Bank ask everyone in America to take action to fight hunger in their community, all month long.
Hunger Action Month is your opportunity to join a movement to feed more Americans than ever before. “Whether it’s by advocating and raising awareness, making donations, or volunteering, you can find the way that’s right for you to make a difference during Hunger Action Month. Together, we can solve hunger,” says Tasha Major, the Special Events Coordinator for Hawaii Foodbank.
She brought orange spoons for “Spoon-tember Selfies”; Feeding America is asking people to take photos of themselves with the special spoons, then post the image to social media accounts to raise awareness- and tag a friend to do the same.
Another creative idea-starter is a 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar that you can download at http://www.hawaiifoodbank.org/pdf/HAM%20Calendar.pdf. It offers one simple tip a day, which can be as easy as “Forward the Hawaii Foodbank website to a friend,” or more involved, like “Help distribute food at a food pantry or shelter in your community. Call 211 for more information.”
Hunger Action Month is going on now through Wednesday, September 30. Details about Feeding America at www.feedingamerica.org.
