Barricade situation ends peacefully in Makaha

Honolulu police and SWAT teams responded to a barricade situation in West Oahu Monday.

Police say the call came in from neighbors at around 2:30 p.m. from Makaha Beach Cabanas.

KHON2 heard from many viewers who spotted authorities on the road.

Samantha Koahou-Piilani lives in the building and says authorities told her to evacuate.

Police say the 69-year-old was alone and threatened to harm himself and/or others. After more than seven hours, he finally surrendered late Monday night.

No one was hurt. The man was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

Koahou-Piilani says she was allowed to return to her home at around 10 p.m.
