Second phase of Kakaako enforcement action starts Thursday morning

Following a meeting of the Governor’s Leadership Team on Homelessness Monday, Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced that the second phase of the enforcement action in Kakaako Makai will take place Thursday.

The enforcement of the sidewalk nuisance and stored property ordinances will take place on Forrest Avenue and Keawe Street, between Ilalo Street and Ala Moana Boulevard, beginning at approximately 11 a.m.

Notices have been posted and handed out throughout the area in Chuukese, English, Marshallese, and Samoan. Additional notices will be handed out on Forrest and Keawe Tuesday morning.

Enforcements will continue take place in a phased approach on the remaining blocks of Kakaako Makai in subsequent weeks.

During these enforcements, the Department of Facility Maintenance is accompanied by State Sheriffs, officials from Hawaii Community Development Authority, and the Honolulu Police Department’s Community Policing Team, as well as surrounding area landowners.
