The Hawaii County Fire Dept. reports that a Japanese tourist had to be rescued Sunday after he got lost hiking Mauna Loa.
He was rescued about a mile-and-a-half away from the observatory.
He had been hiking all day when he got hit by heavy rains, strong winds and temperatures that dipped into the low 50s.
The hiker called for help and was found around 8:15 p.m. suffering from exhaustion and hypothermia.
He was treated and taken to Hilo Medical Center.
