Several Hawaii businesses are looking to make it big, thanks to Martha Stewart.
The American Made Awards celebrate makers, small-business owners, and creative entrepreneurs in the fields of crafts, design, food, and style.
Finalists and winners are selected by Martha Stewart Living editors, however one Audience Choice Winner is chosen by online public voting.
Four finalists are based in Maui:
- Wrappily, by Sara Smith in Kula, offers eco-friendly gift wrapping and packaging that is 100-percent recyclable, compostable, and printed with soy-based inks.
- The Maui Closet Company, by Debra Finkiewicz in Kahului, offers custom, space-saving products that are locally designed and manufactured.
- Maui Koa Wood Creations, by Calisto Palos in Haiku, offers hand-crafted wood-based products such as paddles and canoes, keepsake boxes and jewelry.
- Two Chicks in a Hammock, by Kat Crosby and Michelle Jones in Pukalani, is known locally for its Backyard Juice Hawaiian chili pepper water.
“My wife is Hawaiian. Her grandma is 100-percent Hawaiian and it would be really cool to see a Hawaii company win,” Jones said.
A fifth company, Temple Turmeric, is based in New York City, but was inspired by the founder’s trip to Hawaii and utilizes Hawaiian Oana Turmeric.
