Several Hawaii museums offer free admission for Museum Day Live

A nationwide event means you can get free admission to museums across the country this Saturday, Sept. 26.

Museum Day Live is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian Magazine in honor of the Smithsonian Museums, which offer free admission every day.

In order to take advantage of the offer, you must download a ticket online, which is good for two people per household per address. Other guests will have to pay full admission.

In Hawaii, nine museums are participating:

  • Oahu: Iolani Palace, Hawaii State Art Museum*, Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor, Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii Historical Gallery, Queen Emma Summer Palace
  • Hawaii Island: Lyman Museum, Hulihee Palace
  • Maui: Hale Hoikeike/Bailey House Museum
  • Kauai: Grove Farm Museum

*Admission at this museum is free at all times.

While not related to Museum Day Live, Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives is also offering free admission Saturday.

An open house takes place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and offers free tours and family activities.
