A man who died after a two-vehicle crash in West Oahu Wednesday has been identified.
The crash occurred at around 2 p.m. on Kapolei Parkway near Kinoiki Street, in front of a fire station.
The Honolulu medical examiner identified the victim as Victor Lima, 73, of Kapolei.
According to police, Lima was driving a truck heading eastbound in the far left lane and tried to pass another vehicle.
While attempting to pass, the truck clipped the vehicle’s passenger mirror, swerved left and hit a tree in the median.
Lima was hospitalized at Queen’s Medical Center – West Oahu in critical condition and later died.
The other vehicle suffered minor damage and its driver was not hurt.
Police are still investigating what caused the accident, but say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
This is Oahu’s 37th traffic fatality this year compared to 46 at the same time last year.
The road was initially closed in both directions between Kamaaha Avenue and Kualakai Parkway.
The westbound lanes were reopened at around 3:14 p.m. and the eastbound lanes were reopened just before 4:30 p.m.
