Hawaiian Electric crews will be making emergency repairs Monday night to electrical equipment at the Woodlawn Substation on East Manoa Road.
The work is scheduled to take place between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
For the safety of work crews, power to the substation must be shut down. This will result in a power outage that will affect approximately 3,200 customers in the area between Lowrey Avenue and the back of Manoa Valley. Customers in the vicinity of Waioli Tea Room and Manoa Hillside Estates will also be affected.
To prepare for this planned outage, Hawaiian Electric advises customers to turn off and unplug all unnecessary appliances or equipment. Most electronic equipment draws power even when turned off and should be unplugged to avoid possible damage.
In addition, Hawaiian Electric recommends keeping refrigerators and freezers closed as much as possible during the outage period to maintain proper food temperatures.
“To adjust from say 11:30 until one in the morning is a perfect time because most of us will be asleep,” said Manoa resident Howard Wiig. “Our refrigerators will be closed and they have to do it and its much better to do it late at night instead of when we are still cooking, or taking showers, or watching TV.”
Hawaiian Electric apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks customers for their understanding.
