Honolulu police are investigating after someone created a soapy mess near Honolulu Hale Wednesday morning.
It happened at around 5:20 a.m. at the fountain located at the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard, King and South streets.
Someone poured a substance into the fountain, causing it to produce large amounts of foam that spilled onto the road.
Firefighters spent 45 minutes washing down the area.
The Honolulu Police Department has opened a first-degree criminal tampering case.
“This type of activity or prank is not a joke and is extremely dangerous as driver visibility is obstructed and vehicles have to swerve to avoid the slippery areas. We are fortunate that no one was injured,” said Maj. Roy Sugimoto, District 1 Commander.
Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact police or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
