Rockfall mitigation planned behind Hanauma Bay

Work to stabilize the hillside behind Hanauma Bay will begin on Monday, Nov. 2.

Officials say impacts to the daily operations of the nature preserve are expected to be minimal.

The $736,250 project was contracted to Prometheus Construction with an expected duration of 90 calendar days.

It includes placing anchors and other means to mitigate potential rock falling.

The work schedule will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and, if necessary, the schedule may be extended to 6 p.m.

Guests at the nature preserve should expect some noise associated with the construction activities and observe and obey all posted caution signs.
