Surfers notify lifeguards of shark incident at Leftovers

Lifeguards took the shark signs down this morning at Makaha Beach after no further sightings of sharks were confirmed.

The signs were posted on Oct. 29 after surfers notified lifeguards of an incident with a shark.

Around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, two surfers notified lifeguards that a 10-foot shark “chased” them into shore at the surf spot Leftovers. They were not injured.

Lifeguards are posting signs at Leftovers and Chuns Beach and near Waimea Bay at a spot called “Uppers”.

Ocean Safety is not actively participating in the search for thepossible missing surfer, a 59-year-old male, who may have gone surfing at Waimea Bay. For Friday, their resources are focused on the high surf.
