Cab driver robbed, taxi stolen in Kalihi

Home Rule Street, Kalihi

A cab driver fell victim to a robbery in Kalihi Wednesday, and the suspect got away in his taxi.

Police say it happened on Home Rule Street at around 12:45 p.m.

TheCAB owner Howard Higa told KHON2 the suspect approached the cab while the driver was inside, threatened him, then took off with cash and the cab.

“All our cars are equipped with GPS, global dispatching system, so we know, we can identify within yards where the car is,” Higa said. “But apparently when we identified through our system, we knew it was in Kalihi, and suddenly, the GPS was dismantled. The guy knew to turn it off or pulled the cords of the GPS.”

Police are still searching for the suspect.

The cab driver was not hurt.
