On Wednesday, an Oahu man gave thanks to those who donated blood to save his life.
Edgar Quinabo has been battling rheumatic heart disease, and has gone through three open heart surgeries.
He and his wife, Frankie, were told before undergoing his latest surgery that he would need a lot of blood both during and after the operation.
He ended up needing 17 units total.
The couple visited Blood Bank of Hawaii’s donor center on Dillingham Boulevard Wednesday.
“We’re very, very thankful to all the donors. If we didn’t have the donors donating every day, there’s lots of people that would lose their lives, so we thank everybody that donates,” said Frankie Quinabo.
“Although we can never fully express our gratitude to Hawaii’s blood donors, we’re going to try,” said Edgar Quinabo.
The Quinabos celebrated their 25th anniversary this year.
The president of Blood Bank of Hawaii says the need for blood donations is greatest during the holiday season.
