Laulima: Family struggles to recover after losing everything in fire

A local family was lucky to survive when a fire ripped through their home, but Kathy, her husband and her daughter lost everything.

Her husband’s medical equipment was gone, and both Kathy and her daughter help care for him.

The assistance they received was used for shelter, but that is running out.

Kathy, who used to be a preschool teacher, has struggled with depression and physical ailments since her 19-year-old son died seven years ago.

Their extended family is unable to take them in, so they are trying to find a reasonably priced ground-floor apartment unit to rent, one that is easily accessible for her husband and his wheelchair.

They could also use a hospital bed, lift and clothes size 4x for her husband; clothes, shoes toiletries and household items for Kathy and her daughter.

In the spirit of Laulima, our many hands working together, we can make a difference, help them recover and take care of each other.

To help Kathy, click here and use the ohana code LS-205.
