Piilani Highway in Hana is back open Monday after a brush fire.

The 25-acre fire was first reported at about 5:11 a.m. in the Kahikinui area on the southern slopes of Haleakala.

Five companies and three water tankers from Kula, Makawao, Kahului, Wailea, and Lahaina responded to the fire. Two helicopters provided water drops to areas of the fire perimeter that were difficult to access on foot.

Crews closed the highway in both directions between mile post 24.5 and mile post 26 for safety of firefighters and helicopters working on or near the highway.

It was reopened after firefighters determined the blaze was 100-percent contained and there were no active flames.

Crews will be monitoring throughout the night for hot spots.

No structures were in immediate danger, and no evacuations of area homes were ordered.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
