Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii, a chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, is a private non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse in all its forms and to ensuring every child in the state of Hawaii is able to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment.
All programs are designed for the general public and center around providing parents and caregivers with the support and skills they need to perform their roles as effectively as possible. Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii was started by a group of service providers who became convinced the community needed a voice dedicated to child abuse and neglect. “We are currently doing our Never Shake a Keiki program, Hey Coach program, and other prevention programs we have given grants to for the coming year,” says Executive Director Aileen Deese.
The organization’s mission is to Prevent Child Abuse through education, public awareness and advocacy which promote positive parenting and healthy families where children are valued and loved. “We can all learn the protective factors that prevent child abuse and neglect so we can reduce the 3,000 reports of child abuse in Hawaii each year. They are: nurturing and attachment, parental resilience, knowledge of parenting and child development, social connections, and concrete supports in times of need,” adds Deese.
$35 for general admission (10 years and older), $25 for children 2- 9 years old, and free for children under 2 years. Buy tickets via preventchildabusehawaii.org or by calling (808) 951-0200. Group sales are available; call (808) 951-0200.
