Rare funnel cloud forms over Molokai

A member of a commercial flight crew was able to snap a photo of a rare funnel cloud Tuesday morning while coming in for a landing at Molokai Airport in Hoolehua.

A spokesman from the National Weather Service said at the time of the photo, 10:30 a.m., there was a shallow cloud line over the island caused by a weak northwest flow with probable help from a developing sea breeze.

Under those conditions, a weak funnel cloud like the one pictured was possible under this scenario but would likely be short-lived and not noticeable on radar.
