(CNN) — Don McLean, who sang the famous 1970s song “American Pie,” is in trouble with the law.
The singer-songwriter is charged with domestic violence assault.
Police responded to a 911 call from his home in Camden, Maine early Monday morning and arrested him.
McLean was released after a few hours on a $10,000 unsecured bail and is due in court on February 22.
Police aren’t releasing the name of the alleged victim, nor any other details on what happened in the house.
He reportedly lives with his wife, Patrisha McLean.
Don McLean sold his original manuscript for “American Pie” at auction last year for $1.2 million.
