Want to work at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard?
You can apply for a job at the Job Quest Job Fair at the Blaisdell Arena next Wednesday, January 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard plans to hire 548 positions this year, including:
- 154 Apprentices
- 88 Mechanics
- 141 Engineers
- 165 Other positions (IT, Quality Assurance, Staff/Admin, etc.)
Along with more than 100 Shipyard representatives and dozens of career information tables at JobQuest, the Navy will also give two presentations on Shipyard careers and navigating the USAJobs application process, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. and again from 1:00-1:45 p.m., in the event Briefing Room.
Fathima Lau, a First Year Apprentice at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, has been working at the shipyard for one year now and her class was one of the largest in recent shipyard history. “My first year with the shipyard has been amazing. I feel really honored and blessed to follow in the footsteps of family members and many others by being a part of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard’s important history and mission.”
“The apprentice program offers education and training to be a journeyman in one of the applied trades. The people I work with are great, and there are lots of training and health benefits, as well as promotion opportunities available to federal employees at the shipyard. Plus, it’s a good way to locals in Hawaii to serve our nation,” explains Lau.
The shipyard will be one of many organizations participating in the Job Quest Job Fair. Shipyard employees from all the different trades, and Human Resources reps, will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions and talk about the shipyard.
Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is the largest industrial employer in the state and its work load is increasing, so it needs more talented men and women to help repair and maintain the Navy’s ships and submarines. Lau says most of the jobs are in production and trades.
“We’re looking to hire over 150 Apprentices, which can lead to education and training to be a tradesman in the shipyard. We’re also hiring about 45 nuclear and non-nuclear engineers. Other positions include IT specialists, administration personnel, and other waterfront production helpers and laborers. In total, we’re hiring over 500 new employees for this fiscal year,” elaborates Lau.
All new hires must be 18 or older, U.S. citizens, and eligible to get and maintain a security clearance. You can only find and apply for federal jobs online at USAJOBS.GOV. All job searches and listings, as well as employment application, are exclusively at this site. The Navy will offering briefings (times TBD) at the job fair to teach folks how to use the USAJOBS site as well.
