A Maui woman is fighting for her life after an early morning crash in Napili.
It happened on Thursday, Jan. 21, at approximately 1:48 a.m., on Lower Honoapiilani Road, 270 feet south of Hoohui Road.
According to police, a white Mazda pickup truck was traveling north when it failed to negotiate a left bend in the road, skidded out of control, crossed the center line, struck the curb and overturned.
The truck then knocked down a fence line and collided into two parked vehicles within a private parking lot.
The driver, a 20-year-old woman from Wailuku, was thrown from the truck, suffered critical, life-threatening injuries, and was hospitalized at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Police said she was not wearing her seatbelt.
The front-seat passenger, a 37-year-old man from Wailuku, was wearing his seatbelt and sustained minor injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed the operator was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, officials said.
The involvement of speed, drugs, and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
