Fans enjoy NFL’s Pro Bowl Beach party in Waikiki

The NFL’s new fan event, Pro Bowl Beach, is in full swing.

The two-day event at Queen’s Beach in Waikiki kicked off Thursday and includes appearances by NFL players including Marcus Mariota, Pro Bowl cheerleaders and NFL mascots, youth football activities, beach volleyball and daily entertainment.

“I love it. It’s great. It’s just the excitement and entertainment that’s going on around here. I’m not used to it. I’m from Michigan,” said visitor Andrew Berlin.

“We know there’s debate if they’re going to keep it here from here on or not, but we’ll have a big sign. We want to keep the Pro Bowl to Hawaii coming every year,” said a visitor from New York.

The event itself is free and open to the public, however, as KHON2 previously reported, the city has granted the NFL permission to serve alcohol to sponsors and guests in a private, VIP area from 7-10 p.m.

“If they know what they’re doing, then it shouldn’t be a problem,” said Honolulu resident Brendan Bush.

“I’m kind of against it,” said surfer Warren Lim. “It doesn’t seem to be bothering too many people, but I’d rather them not have it.”
