A law enforcement officer with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources has pleaded not guilty to sex assault charges.
Ethan Ferguson is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl at a beach park in Hilo on Jan. 1. He appeared in court Tuesday.
Court documents say he was in uniform and on-duty when he caught the teen smoking marijuana at Lalakea Beach Park, and told her he would not turn her in if she gave him money, drugs or sex.
We also previously learned Ferguson was fired from the Honolulu Police Department but still hired by DLNR.
Officials confirm he is currently on administrative leave with pay pending any adjudication.
An internal investigation is also ongoing, DLNR said.
Ferguson’s trial has been set for June.
