Hilo’s UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn confirmed Monday that his return from retirement to fight has been pushed back from March 5 to April 23 in Las Vegas.
According to sources close to the situation, Penn’s opponent in his return fight is expected to be veteran Dennis Siver.
Penn said on his website that he was told by UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby that the fight would be pushed back.
He’s currently training in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “I’m going to stay here and immerse myself in the martial arts and see how good I can get,” he said.
Penn’s new coaches and mentors are Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn.
Penn is 37 with a record of 15-5-1 and a former lightweight and welterweight champion. His last bout in 2014 was a loss to Frankie Edgar.
The April Las Vegas fight card will also feature the UFC light heavyweight championship between champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones.
