Question: I’m interested in obtaining a firearms permit. What do I need to do?
Answer: To obtain a permit to acquire, or to register a firearm, you must visit the Honolulu Police Department’s Firearms Section located at 801 South Beretania Street. Office hours are from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday excluding holidays.
Due to the high number of registrants, doors to the Firearm’s Section will close at 3 p.m. Customers within the office during that time will be assisted.
However, all others will be asked to return the next business day.
Forms are now available on the Honolulu Police Department’s website to complete prior to coming down to the Firearms Section office. You may complete the forms and bring them with you to the Firearm’s Section to help expedite the application process.
