Just a few months ago, Congressman Mark Takai underwent surgery to remove a small cancerous tumor on his pancreas. He says, he’s ready for re-election.
Takai filed his nomination papers Wednesday with the state’s office of elections with his family by his side.
He also sat down with KHON2 to talk about his fight against cancer.
“It just knocks you down, there’s a bit of fear and there’s uncertainty, but we have great technology, you know as I mentioned, I have great faith. So we were able to build back the strength and be able to deal with this,” said Rep. Mark Takai, D, Hawaii.
Takai says he was glad to be back in the office following the surgery in November and is doing well.
He says providing necessary funding to cancer research has become an additional priority for him.
