The University of Hawaii softball team returns home to host the Bank of Hawaii Invitational at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium Feb. 26-29.
The three day tournament will include Utah Valley from the Western Athletic Conference and Portland State coming from the Big Sky Conference.
The Rainbow Wahine are coming off of a 2-4 record on the road after they defeated Wichita State and Southern Utah last week in UNLV’s DeMarini Desert Classic. Freshman utility player, Sarah Muzik, is making a name for herself early in the season. Muzik leads the team with a .389 batting average, 4 hits, eight runs and three stolen bases through three attempts. Sophomore utility player, Rachel Lack, and junior pitcher and first base, Heather Morales, are also leading the team with two home runs each.
The last time Hawaii and Portland State met, it was all in Rainbow Wahine favor. Hawaii defeated Portland State 11-0 on Feb. 15 in Las Vegas and holds a 17-6 lead over the Vikings. The Rainbow Wahine have won the last nine consecutive matchups against Portland State. Hawaii also beat Utah Valley last season 17-3 on Feb. 13 in Las Vegas.
The Rainbow Wahine will face Utah State first on Friday at 5 p.m. will challenge Portland State at 7 p.m. following their first game.
