The Kauai Fire Dept. reports that an overturned kayak reported adrift Friday afternoon off Nualolo Valley on the Na Pali coast prompted first responders to conduct a search of the area at approximately 3:18 p.m.
After initially scanning the ocean, rescuers turned their focus to the beach at Nualolo where they saw a man and a woman waving for help.
Air-1 then headed to the landing zone near the couple to investigate.
The couple, who was visiting from Seattle, told the rescuers they were okay, but were stranded in Nualolo for a few days due to the extreme surf conditions. The visitors reported that when they attempted to leave the area yesterday, they lost their kayak in the large waves along with their belongings.
The visitors were flown aboard Air-1 to the landing zone at Kee Beach and released at the scene.
