Road Work for the Week, March 13-18

The Hawaii Department of Transportation alerts the public that there will be nighttime lane closures on various roadways in the vicinity of Kaimuki starting Sunday night, March 13, through Wednesday night, March 16, 2016 from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The closures are required for crews to complete pavement marking installations. Roadwork is weather permitting.

The dates and locations of the closures are as follows:

9 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Sunday

  • Right lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between the University Avenue Off-Ramp (Exit 24B) and the King Street Off-Ramp (Exit 25A).
  • Closure of the King Street Off-Ramp (Exit 25A) from the eastbound H-1 Freeway.
  • Closure of the South King Street/Kapiolani Boulevard/Harding Avenue Intersection.
  • Motorists traveling eastbound on South King Street will be required to turn right at Kapiolani Boulevard.
  • Motorists traveling westbound on Harding Avenue will be detoured at Kapahulu Avenue.
  • Motorists traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard will be detoured at Kaimuki Avenue.
  • Motorists traveling westbound on Waialae Avenue will be required to turn right at Old Waialae Avenue.
  • Motorists traveling northbound on Kapahulu Avenue may go straight through the intersection of Old Waialae Avenue or turn right onto Waialae Avenue. The left turn to Kapiolani Boulevard will be prohibited.

9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Monday

  • Closure of Kapiolani Boulevard in the westbound direction between Kapahulu Avenue and Harding Avenue.
  • Motorists traveling westbound on Waialae Avenue will be required to turn right at Old Waialae Avenue.
  • Motorists traveling northbound on Kapahulu Avenue may go straight through the intersection of Old Waialae Avenue or turn right onto Waialae Avenue. The left turn to Kapiolani Boulevard will be prohibited.

9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Tuesday

  • Closure of Kapiolani Boulevard in the eastbound direction between Kaimuki Avenue and Kapahulu Avenue.
  • Motorists traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard will be detoured to Kaimuki Avenue.
  • Motorists traveling westbound on Harding Avenue may only turn left to westbound Kapiolani Boulevard.
  • Motorists traveling eastbound on South King Street may go straight through the intersection of Harding Avenue or make a right turn to Kapiolani Boulevard. The left turn to Kapiolani Boulevard will be prohibited.

9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Wednesday

  • Two right lanes closed on Kapahulu Avenue in the northbound direction between Harding Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard.
  • The right turn from Kapahulu Avenue to Waialae Avenue will be closed, but motorists will be able to turn right onto Waialae Avenue at the Kapiolani Boulevard Intersection.
  • Two right lanes closed on Waialae Avenue in the westbound direction at the Old Waialae Avenue Intersection.
  • Motorists will be able to turn right onto Old Waialae Avenue.

Electronic message boards will be posted at key decision points to inform motorists of the closures. Emergency vehicles will be escorted through the work site. Special duty police officers will be on site to assist with traffic flow.

— H-1 FREEWAY —

AIEA
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Shoulder closure in the eastbound direction between the Kaahumanu Street Overpass and the Kaamilo Street Overpass for slope repair work.

PEARL CITY
8 p.m.-4:30 a.m. Monday through Friday morning: Right lane closures in the westbound direction between the Pearl City/Waimalu Off-Ramp (Exit 10) and the Waipahu Off-Ramp (Exit 8B) for bridge deck overlay work.

Monday night through Wednesday morning

  • Two lanes closed from 8 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
  • Three lanes closed from 8:45 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Four lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Wednesday night through Friday morning

  • Two lanes closed from 8 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
  • Three lanes closed from 8:45 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

8 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning: Up to four lanes closed in both directions between the Kamehameha Highway Overpass and the Waiawa Road Overpass for the rail project. The number of lanes closed will vary depending on the location of the roadwork.

WAIAWA INTERCHANGE
Sunday through Thursday for the rail project:

Farrington Highway to the H-1

  • Eastbound onramp to eastbound H-1 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Up to three eastbound lanes of the H-1 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. One additional lane will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m.
  • Up to three westbound lanes at the H-1/H-2 merge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Westbound offramp to Waipahu will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Farrington Highway and Kamehameha Highway near Waiawa Road

  • Alternating eastbound or westbound lanes at the H-1/H-2 merge near Waiawa Road will be closed from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Drivers wll be detoured to a temporary lane on the opposite side of Farrington Highway.
  • Eastbound loop on-ramp to the H-2 Freeway north will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

WAIPAHU
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning: Closure of the Waipahu Off-Ramp (Exit 8B) from the freeway in the westbound direction for the rail project.

8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Shoulder closure in both directions between the Kamehameha Highway Overpass and the Paiwa Street Underpass for slope repair work.

— H-2 FREEWAY —

MILILANI TO WAIPIO
7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday: Left lane closure in the southbound direction between the Meheula Parkway Overpass and the H-1/H-2 Merge for maintenance work.

— H-3 FREEWAY —

HALAWA
7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Right lane closure in the Kaneohe-bound direction between the Halawa Valley Street Underpass and the Harano Tunnel for electrical work.

KANEOHE
8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closure in both directions between the Kapaa Quarry Place Underpass and the Mokapu Saddle Road Underpass for median maintenance.

— FARRINGTON HIGHWAY —

EWA BEACH 
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning: Closure of the westbound off-ramp to the southbound Fort Weaver Road for the rail project.

HONOKAI HALE
8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Shoulder closure in the westbound direction between the H-1 Freeway and Waiomea Street for drainage improvements.

NANAKULI 
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning: Two lanes closed in the eastbound direction between Haleakala Avenue and Nanakuli Avenue for sewer installations. One lane will be open in each direction.

PEARL CITY 
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning: Closure of the eastbound off-ramp to the northbound H-2 Freeway for the rail project.

8 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning: Lane closures in both directions between Waiawa Road and the Kamehameha Highway Overpass for the rail project.

WAIPAHU 
9 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning: Closure of the eastbound off-ramp to the H-1 Freeway for the rail project.

Sunday through Thursday for the rail project:
Old Fort Weaver Road to Leoku Street

  • Off-ramp from southbound Fort Weaver Road to westbound Farrington Highway will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Detour to Leoku Street.
  • Off-ramp from westbound Farrington Highway to southbound Fort Weaver Road will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Detour to Old Fort Weaver Road.
  • Off-ramp from southbound Fort Weaver Road to eastbound Farrington Highway will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • One alternating lane of eastbound and westbound Farrington Highway will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Monday through Friday for the rail project:
Old Fort Weaver Road to Leoku Street

  • One alternating inside/outside lane of westbound Farrington Highway will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Inside eastbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Leoku Street to Leokane Street

  • Left turn going westbound at Leoku Street will be closed 24/7. Drivers will be detoured to an alternate turn on the west side of the Fort Weaver overpass.
  • Inside westbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Inside eastbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Leokane Street to Pupukahi Street

  • One alternating westbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • One alternating eastbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Left turn lane on eastbound and westbound Farrington Highway will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Detours at Pupupuhi Street or Leokane Street.

Pupukahi Street to Pupupuhi Street

  • One alternating westbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • One alternating eastbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Left turn lane on eastbound and westbound Farrington Highway will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Detours to Aniani Place.

Aniani Place to Waipahu Depot Road

  • Left turn lane on westbound Farrington Highway at Aniani Place will be reduced 24/7.
  • Inside westbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Waipahu Depot Road to Mokuola Street

  • Alternating westbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Alternating easttbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Westbound lanes will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Drivers will be detoured to Hikimoe Street.

Mokuola Street to Paiwa Street

  • No left turns from eastbound or westbound Farrington Highway to Mokuola Street or Awalau Street 24/7.
  • No crossing the highway at the Mokuola Street/Awalau Street intersection from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • One alternating eastbound/westbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Paiwa Street to Kahualii Street

  • One westbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • One eastbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Inside westbound lane will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Kahualii Street to the Kamehameha Highway overpass

  • Starting 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, no crossing the highway at the Kahualii Street intersection. No right turn from northbound Waipio Point Access Road to eastbound Farrington Highway. No left turn from northbound Waipio Point Access Road to westbound Farrington Highway. Drivers are detoured to Paiwa Street.
  • Starting 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, no right turn from westbound Farrington Highway to northbound Kahualii Street. No right turn from southbound Kahualii Street to westbound Farrington Highway. Drivers are detoured to Paiwa Street.
  • Alternating westbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Alternating eastbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

— KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY —

AINA HAINA TO HAWAII KAI
9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Alternating single lane closure in both directions between West Hind Drive and Hanauma Bay Road for sign installations and landscaping work as part of the Kalanianaole Highway Resurfacing project.

KAILUA
8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday: Right lane closures in the eastbound direction between Auloa Road and Uluhala Street for pole replacements.

— KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY —

AIEA
Monday through Friday for the rail project:

Kaonohi Street to Pali Momi Street

  • One inside eastbound lane and one inside westbound lane will be closed 24/7. Eastbound and westbound left-turns at Pali Momi Street will remain open during this time.
  • Lipoa Place intersection is reopened.
  • Inside eastbound lane will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Inside westbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Alternating westbound lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Pali Momi Street to Kohomua Street

  • Starting Friday, one inside eastbound lane and one inside westbound lane will be closed 24/7. The northbound left turn at Aiea Kai Places will be closed. Westbound motorists from Aiea Kai Place will be detoured to Honomanu Street.

Honomanu Street to Kohomua Street

  • From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, southbound lane of Honomanu Street will be closed.
  • Up to two eastbound lanes between Honomanu Street and Moanalua Road will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Up to two westbound lanes between Honomanu Street and Moanalua Road will be closed 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • From 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Friday, the H201 westbound on-ramp will be closed intermittently. Motorists will be detoured to Honomanu Street and Moanalua Road.
  • One westbound lane between Kohomua Street and Salt Lake Boulevard will be closed between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Westbound exit at Kohomua Street will be closed 24/7 for overhead guideway installation. Motorists will be detoured to Kalaloa Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

HAUULA
8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday: Lane closure in the southbound direction between Hulahula Place and Puhuli Street for pole replacements.

KAAAWA
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday: Lane closure in the northbound direction between Kaaawa Valley Road and Pohuehue Road for sand bag removal.

KAHUKU
8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday: Lane closure in both directions between Puuluana Street and Kuilima Drive for utility installations.

KAHUKU TO KAAAWA

8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closure in both directions between Sand Road and Kahana Valley Road for utility installations.

KANEOHE
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closure in the northbound direction between the H-3 Freeway and Halekou Road for utility installations.

MILILANI
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closures in both directions between Ka Uka Boulevard and Waihau Street for guardrail work, pavement striping installations and shoulder improvements. One lane in both directions will be open for motorists at all times. Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and use alternate roadways such as Kuahelani Avenue, Meheula Parkway, Lanikuhana Avenue, Ka Uka Boulevard and the H-2 Freeway.

PEARL CITY
Monday through Friday for the rail project:

Waiawa Road to Acacia Road

  • One inside lane eastbound at Acacia Road will be closed 24/7.
  • Two inside eastbound lanes will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Two inside westbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Left turns of westbound highway at Acacia Road will be closed. Westbound motorists will be detoured to Waiawa Road.
  • Westbound left turns at Acacia Road will reopen Friday.

Acacia Road to Waimano Home Road

  • One inside eastbound lane and one inside westbound lane will be closed 24/7. Two eastbound lanes will remain open during peak travel times.
  • Inside eastbound lane will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Westbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Waimano Home Road to Puu Momi Street

  • One inside eastbound lane closed 24/7. Two eastbound lanes will remain open during peak travel times.
  • Starting Wednesday, the eastbound left turn from the highway at Waimano Home Road will be closed. Motorists will be detoured to Puu Momi Street.
  • Starting 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, eastbound left turns to Waimano Home Road and westbound to Lehua Avenue will be closed. No crossing the highway at the Waimano Home Road intersection. The inside eastbound and westbound lanes will also be closed at this time. Westbound motorists will be detoured to Acacia Road. Eastbound motorists will be detoured to Puu Momi Street.

Puu Momi Street to Puu Poni Street

  • One inside eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway closed 24/7. Two eastbound and two westbound lanes will remain open during peak travel times.

Puu Poni Street to Kuleana Road

  • One inside eastbound lane will be closed 24/7. Two eastbound lanes will remain open during peak travel times. Traffic along H-1 will not be affected at this time.
  • Alternating westbound lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Inside eastbound lane will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Westbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists will be detoured to a temporary lane on the eastbound side of the highway. Motorists along Kuleana Road will be detoured to Kaahumanu Street. Eastbound left-turn motorists will be detoured to Puu Momi Street and Kaahumanu Street. Business access will be maintained.

Kuleana Road to Kaahumanu Street

  • One inside eastbound lane and one westbound lane will be closed 24/7. Left turn restrictions will be in place. Westbound left turn into Kaluamoi Place is closed. Motorists will be detoured to Kaahumanu Street.
  • Inside eastbound lane will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Inside westbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Kaahumanu Street to Hekaha Street

  • One inside eastbound lane and one inside westbound lane will be closed 24/7.
  • Westbound left turn at Kaahumanu Street is reopened.
  • Eastbound left turn at Hekaha Street is closed 24/7. Eastbound motorists will be detoured to Kanuku Street.
  • Outside eastbound lane will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Alternating westbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Hekaha Street to Kanuku Street

  • One inside eastbound lane and one inside westbound lane will be closed 24/7.
  • Westbound left turn at Hekaha Street is re-opened.

Kanuku Street to Kaonohi Street

  • One inside eastbound lane and one inside westbound lane will be closed 24/7. Left turn restrictions will be in place.
  • Inside eastbound lane will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Inside westbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Alternating inside westbound lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

PEARL HARBOR 
8 p.m.-7 a.m. Monday through Friday morning: Right lane closure between Kalaloa Street and Salt Lake Boulevard for the rail project.

7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Alternating lane closures in both directions at the Radford Drive/Makalapa Road Intersection for the rail project.

7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closures in the westbound direction between Center Drive and Halawa Drive for the rail project. The right turn only lane approaching Radford Drive may be closed during this time.

7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closures in the eastbound direction between Ford Island Bridge and Center Drive for the rail project.

  • One lane closed between Ford Island Bridge and Arizona Memorial Place.
  • Two lanes closed between Arizona Memorial Place and Arizona Street.
  • Two lanes closed between Arizona Street and Makalapa Road.
  • Two lanes closed between Makalapa Road and Center Drive.

PUPUKEA
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Single lane closure in the southbound direction between Pahipahialua Street and Wallace Beach Park for restriping and concrete barrier maintenance. Traffic will be contraflowed through the remaining open lane.

WAIKANE TO KAAAWA
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closure in the northbound direction between Waihee Road and Kaaawa Valley Road for tree trimming.

— LIKELIKE HIGHWAY —

KALIHI
9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Right lane closure in the southbound direction between North School Street and the H-1 Freeway for drainage repairs.

KANEOHE
7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday: Lane closures in the Kaneohe-bound direction between Valley View Drive and Kamehameha Highway for maintenance work.

9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Alternating lane closures in both directions between Bethel Street and Kekaulike Street for underground utility installations.

7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closure in both directions between Waiakamilo Road and Alakawa Street for maintenance work.

PEARL HARBOR
8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Single lane closure in the eastbound direction between Center Drive and Valkenburgh Street for the rail project.

8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closure in both directions between Queen Street and Atkinson Drive for concrete pumping and deliveries.

8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Right lane closed in the eastbound direction between Kahanamoku Street and Kalakaua Avenue for sewer maintenance.

8 p.m.-3 a.m. Monday through Friday: Lane closure in both directions between Cooke Street and Punchbowl Street for sewer work.

— VINEYARD BOULEVARD —

HONOLULU
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Roving single lane closures in both directions between Palama Street and the eastbound H-1 Freeway On-Ramp for road repairs and landscape maintenance.

9 p.m.-5 a.m. Monday through Friday morning: Alternating lane closures in both directions between Palama Street and the eastbound H-1 Freeway On-Ramp for utility replacements.

8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Right lane closure in both directions between Aala Street and the Pali Highway for utility installations.

8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Left lane closure in the westbound direction between Liliha Street and Pua Lane for utility installations.

9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday: Lane closure in the southbound direction between Vineyard Boulevard and North King Street for roadway reconstruction.

8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, March 20: Two lanes closed in the northbound direction between North King Street and Vineyard Boulevard for roadway reconstruction. Traffic will be contraflowed to provide one travel lane in either direction. Left turns from Liliha Street to North King Street and Vineyard Boulevard are prohibited. Special duty police officers will assist with traffic flow.

— MIDDLE STREET —

HONOLULU
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Right lane closure in the northbound direction between Kamehameha Highway and North King Street fronting the Kalihi Transit Center for reconstruction work.

KALIHI 
7 p.m.-4 a.m. Monday through Saturday morning: Lane closure in both directions between North King Street and Kamehameha Highway for the Middle Street Pavement Reconstruction project. Traffic will be contraflowed. There will also be a 24/7 southbound median lane closure and sidewalk closure on the west side of Middle Street. Signage will be posted instructing pedestrians to use the east sidewalk.

—SALT LAKE BOULEVARD —

SALT LAKE
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Right lane closure in the westbound direction between Ala Oli Street and Kahuapaani Street for utility repairs.

— FORT WEAVER ROAD —

EWA BEACH
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Alternating lane closures in both directions between Keoneula Boulevard and Kuhina Street for utility construction.

9 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday through Friday morning: Closure of ramps to Farrington Highway for the rail project.

— KANEOHE BAY DRIVE —

KANEOHE
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday: Alternating lane closure in the eastbound direction between Kamehameha Highway and Nanamoana Street for manhole repairs.
