Kona man cleared of wife’s death, deemed suicide

Hawaii Island police detectives reported Friday, May 20, that they have completed their investigation into a March 31 fatal shooting and have reclassified the case from a murder to a suicide.

Final autopsy results determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and that the manner of death was suicide.

In response to a 7:11 a.m. call, Kona patrol officers found 62-year-old Marsha Mansker of Kailua-Kona unresponsive at a home on Mahilani Drive in the Kona Highland subdivision.

Mansker’s husband James was arrested at the scene on suspicion of second-degree murder and then released April 1 pending further investigation.
