Students at Jefferson Elementary took part in an emergency evacuation drill Friday.
The drill kicked off Tsunami Awareness Month.
“I learned it’s important for safety, especially with tsunamis. They’re really dangerous,” said fifth-grader Caleb Delenia.
“I think it’s important, because if we don’t know, we’ll just hesitate and just go, ‘Oh, what’s happening?’ Then we won’t know what to do so we’ll die or get in the tsunami and go away,” said fifth-grader Eunhae John.
Out of 256 public schools statewide, the Department of Education says 24 of them are considered to be in tsunami evacuation zones.
