A man suspected of stealing a stolen vehicle was arrested on Kalanianaole Highway near Kalani High School Saturday morning.
Police said the driver hit several cars before he was finally arrested and placed into custody.
Witnesses say police made the arrest quickly. Police were following the vehicle from where it was stolen on the Windward side just after 10 a.m. — a police helicopter helped track the vehicle — but then the suspect got stuck in traffic.
One witness who wanted to remain unidentified said there was “a loud honking, and I looked behind, and there was smoke coming out of a car. I then looked forward and policemen were running towards us, between cars, with their guns out, running towards that smoke cloud. The next thing I saw in my rear view mirror was they pulled a guy out of a car.”
The suspected driver was arrested and taken into custody at 10:45 a.m.
The front right side of the stolen Nissan was damaged. No injuries were reported.
During the arrest, traffic was backed up all the way to Hawaii Kai.
