Firefighters put out house fire in Kailua

Honolulu firefighters responded to a two-alarm structure fire in Kailua early Monday morning.

The first unit arrived at 1452 Akupa Street at 1:08 a.m. The fire was brought under control at 1:25 a.m. and fully extinguished by 2:41 a.m.

One male occupant was home at the time of the fire and already outside when HFD arrived on scene.

Officials say most of the damage was to the garage with some damage to the kitchen.

Damages estimates are $100,000 to the structure; $40,000 to its contents (including car); and $10,000 to neighboring property.

The incident is currently under investigation and the cause has yet to be determined.
