Seattle Seahawks star defensive lineman Michael Bennett hosted his third annual OCEAN (Fighting Obesity through Community, Education, Activity and Nutrition) Health Fest in Kapolei Saturday morning.
For the third straight year, Bennett and his Hawaii-born wife Pele hosted the free event designed to provide information and inspiration to help keiki move toward a healthier, more active future.
“I stay here offseason and I just wanted to create something fun for kids and to get the chance to meet the local community,” he said.
The OCEAN Health Fest featured cooking demonstrations by renowned island chefs Sam Choy and Nico Chaize, group fitness activities and a health expo, which included health screenings and booths highlighting community resources available to island families.
“This young generation is going to be the next Hawaii,” Choy said, “and so for us, we’re very thankful that the Bennetts put this program on … when you start eating fresh, start cooking and try to utilize your body to create food, it’s amazing.”
Through their foundation, the Bennetts have organized family health events in Honolulu and Seattle to educate communities on how to battle preventable obesity. Click here for more information.
