The Preschool Open Doors (POD) program has opened an additional application period for families in need of preschool tuition assistance.
Applications for the 2016-2017 POD year are being accepted until Tuesday, May 31, and must be received at the Oahu POD office at 560 North Nimitz Highway, Suite 218, Honolulu, HI, 96817 or via fax 808-694-3066 by May 31 to be considered for preschool participation during July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.
The POD program is operated by the non-profit People Attentive To Children (PATCH) on behalf of the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services.
Applications are available for download from the PATCH website. You also can call 808-791-2130 on Oahu, or toll-free from Neighbor Islands 1.800.746.5620 to request an application by mail.
The program helps qualifying low- and moderate-income families send their children to preschool by providing child care subsidies to the family. Priority is given to children with special needs or at-risk factors. Household size and monthly gross income also are used to determine priority for enrollment.
Families with children born between Aug. 1, 2011 and July 31, 2012 may apply for the 2016-2017 POD year. Families are reminded that a child must be five years old on or before July 31 to enter kindergarten.
