The city, the North Shore Lifeguard Association and the Hawaii Tourism Authority have teamed up to offer summer sessions for the Junior Lifeguard Program.
Youth from 12-17 years old wishing to register for the program must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must know how to swim.
After the completion of the five summer sessions, participants will compete in the Oahu Junior Lifeguard Championships.
Free registration for the summer sessions starts Saturday, May 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ala Moana Regional Beach Park.
The one-week training courses will take place at Ala Moana Regional Beach Park, Ehukai Beach Park, Kalama Beach Park and Makaha Beach Park 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday June 13-17, June 20-24, June 27- July 1, July 11-15, and July 18-22.
Many graduates have put their training into life-saving action and many of today’s professional lifeguards decided to make it their career following the completion of the program.
